Easter Bonnet Parade Winner!

Breaking News Today!

Well, well, well a turn up for the books. My son won the first competition of his life- an Easter Bonnet parade at his nursery. He was the proud winner of a nice big Easter Egg. Not that he cares or understands...he just wants the chocolate egg.

What I am surprised about is that every being in my family:

a) Fell about laughing when they saw what my son and I had come up with. (My other half)

b) Begged me not jeopardise his emotional future by making him wear his bonnet. (My darling sister)

c) My mother-in-law suggested something called a proper Easter bonnet. The ones you can get from the shop and stick things to.

But no. My son and I went on a hunt around our house. I was desperate and couldn't be bothered to go shopping.

I managed to rustle up an old Matalan Baker boy cap, a baby duck bib that I had kept from my sons youth, and a couple of cars his Bhuajee had brought him. Add to that, my Asda's cotton pads for removing make up, sprinkled with a hard boiled egg and voila you have a creative masterpiece.

I sewed on the cars and bib and Arya pretty much did his kamaal by sticking everything to it. The bonnet was floppy, naff and individual.

He worked the catwalk with expert ease, smiling his plastic smile. I looked on proud as punch with my mother-in-law. Some hats were so brilliant that I had not even thought that Arya would win. He did. Other parents were baffled, looking incredulously at the mess on my sons head. How on earth could that win?

The moral of the story: be individual, leave it to the last minute and be frugal (refuse to spend any money).

Hi- yes it was a very tough decision. But I knew instinctively it was the right one for me. I do sometimes wish I could escape to work though...
