Remember Me! By Sophie Kinsella

Okay- I am going to have to admit my love of select chick lit. I am not ashamed at all, just a little disgruntled about the level of negativity levelled at the genre. I must admit after Bridget Jones - I rarely venture in to the area of chick lit UNLESS it makes it in to the best seller lists.

Now Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic appeared on my desk at work about three years ago. It was a student's copy that had been left ailing in my classroom. As I was munching on my lunch I dug in to the book and subsequently couldn't put it down.

I was hooked. My life was at an absolute standstill. I was even sneakily reading the odd paragraph stuck in traffic. I don't know why. Perhaps it is with the ease that Kinsella draws her character. The simple language. The everyday situations, the plot. Kinsella is a brilliant novelist.

Remember Me! Is a stand alone novel and not a part of the Shopoholic Series. If you get past the rather awkward prologue you will be drawn in. Sophie Kinsella deals with the issue of serious amnesia in a very humorous and sympathetic way. The reader begins to empathise with the awful predicament the main protagonist finds herself in. Remember Me! can also be uncomfortable reading at times especially when it forces you to think about the much misunderstood area of mental health and how the lives of people experiencing memory loss can be adversely affected.

Whatever you may think of Chick lit don't forget that this writing is extremely difficult to write. That which seems easy and shallow very rarely is - get it and enjoy, even if you have to wear a balaclava to your local book store. Save yourself the misery and get it online!
